FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. — A broken track connection could be to blame for a three-car derailment on the railroad tracks running through Franklin Park near the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Pacific Street.

According to reports, three Canadian National freight cars carrying new sport utility vehicles left the tracks around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police reports link the cause of the derailment to a broken track connection.

The derailment caused a disruption of Metra commuter service, with passengers having to take buses to the next available stop, according to reports. Workers cleared the derailed cars from the tracks by 4 p.m.

No Monday rush-hour delays were reported.
