KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A train crew said someone opened fire on them as they headed into the metro area late Monday night.
While on the last leg of a trip hauling rock from Sioux City, Iowa to Kansas City, Kan., the crew of a Union Pacific train said that they were fired on as they got closer to the 59th Street crossing.
The engineer told police that the crew heard two gunshots, possibly from a .22-caliber weapon or larger. The left-side window of the train where the engineer was sitting was shattered. None of the crew was hurt.
Police told KMBC’s Brenda Washington that they did not find any shell casings. The train was allowed to continue on to the rail yard, where the window was repaired.
Union Pacific said that the investigation is now in the hands of its special agents.
