GALESBURG, Ill. — Nearly ten train cars carrying potentially toxic chemicals have derailed in the downtown area.

The derailment happened Monday morning around 3:00 a.m. Eight cars jumped the track. South Kellogg and South Prarie Streets have been blocked off near the scene.

Galesburg police aren’t saying say what was inside the tanker cars. There have been a few reports into our studios that diesel fuel was in some of the cars.

An engineer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, says the train was operated by remote control.

No one was evacuated as a result of the accident, the damage is not described as very serious.

Officials are waiting for the railroad company to come and upright the tankers.
