PUTNEY, Vermont — Eleven train cars containing coal and carbon dioxide derailed Wednesday.

No one was hurt and no hazardous materials were released, Public Safety Commissioner Kerry Sleeper said.

Nine of the New England Central Railroad cars contained coal and two contained carbon dioxide, he said.

Employees of the Putney Paper Co. were evacuated while emergency crews assessed the damage and determined that no chemicals had been spilled, Sleeper said.
