THOMASVILLE, Ga. — A CSX train derailed at a railroad yard causing some cars to overturn.

The train included 61 cars and was carrying wheat, milk, salt, animal feed and scrap metal when it derailed just before midnight Monday night. No injuries were reported.

“Train Q54506 had three engines and 61 cars,” CSX spokeswoman Meg Scheu said. “It derailed 10 cars while they were in the rail yard, and three of them turned over.”

Railroad officials had yet to determine what caused the derailment.

“When we have a derailment, we look at three different things,” Scheu said. “Once we’ve looked at all those things, they’ll make a determination on what caused it. It may take a couple of days.”

Problems with the train, obstructions or damage to the train tracks, or incorrect operation while the train is moving are usually the most probable causes of derailments, Scheu said.
