JACKSON, Miss. — A train derailment on the Canadian National line through downtown Jackson was quickly cleaned up Wednesday.
Larry Fisher, Director of Emergency Operations for Hinds County said, “Some of the cars do contain acides, some contain products that an environmentally hazardous, but we have no leakage whatsoever.”
Fisher said there were two minor injuries when the engineer and conductor on a Kansas City Southern Railroad locomotive jumped to the ground when their engine was hit by the derailing cars. They were treated and released.
Six cars, five tankers, and an empty hopper car left the rails on the bridges over Pearl and Pascagoula Street, near the old King Edward Hotel.
By Wednesday afternoon, service was fully restored on both the Canadian National and Kansas City Southern railroads.
