KANSAS CITY — A train derailed Monday afternoon in Lenexa.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near Santa Fe Trail Drive, between Long and Rosehill. About 10 to 12 cars of a coal train went off the tracks at that location, KMBC’s Kris Ketz reported. No one was injured.

The train was a 121-car Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.

Santa Fe Trail was shut down in the area while crews worked to clean up the spilled coal. Crews said the cleanup could take several hours.

There has been no word on what caused the train to go off its tracks.
