MOORE, Okla. — Moore fire officials say a train engine derailed today, blocking three major railroad crossing during rush hour.

Burlington Northern spokesman Joe Faust says the lead locomotive derailed about 4 p-m. The train was coming from Alliance, Texas, to Oklahoma City. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Eastbound traffic was bumper-to-bumper at Northeast 27th between Interstate 35 and Eastern Avenue just after 5 p-m and police officers were directing traffic.

A member of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe crew estimated the northbound train is 6-thousand to 65-hundred feet long.

Moore Deputy Fire Chief Gary Bird says the problem was caused when the engine went off track. He says no cars overturned and nothing was leaking.
