BLACKFOOT, Idaho — A scary situation in Bingham County on Friday night as a train carrying ammonium nitrate fertilizer jumped the track and derails near Blackfoot.
The accident involved a Union Pacific train and happened about three miles north of Blackfoot on the tracks next to Highway 91. Union Pacific says luckily no one was injured when the two cars carrying the fertilizer jumped the tracks.
“Of course there will be an investigation of the derailment but it does not appear to be track-related,” said Union Pacific Spokesman John Bromley.
Union Pacific says the accident happened when the train was switching tracks and it is taking them a while to get things back on track. They expect to have the cars cleaned up and out of the way on Sunday.
