WICHITA, Kan. — A train ran into a semitrailer Thursday in southern Sedgwick County, spilling herbicide the truck was hauling.

Officials were called to the scene, at 111th Street South and Meridian, after 8 p.m. Thursday. The semitrailer was trying to cross the railroad tracks, just west of the intersection, when it became high-centered on the tracks, Sedgwick County Fire Division Chief Rick Brazill said.

As the truck driver went to look for help, a Union Pacific train struck the vehicle. The impact moved the truck several yards and punctured at least one tank of herbicide. About 50 gallons leaked out.

Wichita and Sedgwick County hazardous material crews worked to clear the area. The spill did not pose a health risk, Brazill said, and no one was injured.
