WASHINGTON — A track inspector hit by a train died Thursday, a week after the accident killed his colleague.

Matthew Brooks, 36, of Waldorf, Md., had been in critical condition since the Nov. 30 wreck, Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said.

The Metro train did not have passengers aboard and was heading to a rail yard when it struck the two track workers from behind near the Eisenhower Avenue station, killing 52-year-old Leslie A. Cherry.

“Our thoughts are with the family members of Mr. Brooks and Mr. Cherry,” said Jack Requa, Metro’s acting general manager.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
