MEXICO CITY — According to a wire service, a train struck and killed six young people who were walking along railroad tracks during a religious procession, officials said Thursday.
The bodies of the six people, between the ages of 13 and 25, were found scattered along the tracks shortly after they separated from the rest of the pilgrims before dawn Wednesday, Tlaxcala state spokeswoman Dorita Nava said.
Witnesses said the victims, from the neighboring state of Puebla, didn’t hear or see the train as they walked along the tracks in Tlaxcala, 70 miles east of Mexico City.
They were headed to Huamantla, 30 miles to the southeast, to celebrate a religious festival for the Virgin Mary called “The night that no one sleeps.”
