NEWARK, N.J. — The train was from New Orleans, but the idea came from Slidell, La. More than 5 tons of food, supplies, clothing and blankets arrived this afternoon in Newark, where a team of 70 volunteers was waiting to load the goods onto trucks and ship them off to Bayonne and Hoboken, where Hurricane Sandy flooded out whole neighborhoods and where many are still without power. The Amtrak train — normally called “The Crescent” — today was dubbed “The Train of Hope.”
