BILOXI, Miss. — Kansas City Southern Railroad Co. announced Tuesday its intention to increase train speeds on portions of its line in South Mississippi between Gulfport and Hattiesburg. In a release, the company said it plans to almost double speeds from 25 to 49 mph, except in Wiggins and south of Interstate 10. C. Doniele Carlson, KCSR representative, said the increased speed will enhance economic-development opportunities in the area and is made possible by major track rehabilitations.
