JOLIET, Ill. — Union Pacific has set Oct. 18 as the date for a grand-opening celebration of its new Joliet intermodal yard. But trains already have begun to stir in the intermodal yard, and rail traffic will pick up this week.
A Union Pacific spokesman said that the intermodal yard official opens today but the first commercial rail traffic is expected Tuesday. The first train, however, entered the yard Thursday, when rail cars were delivered for use by outgoing trains this week.
