HOLLY, Mich. — CSX Transportation hopes to resume operations today over a stretch of railroad track near here that was destroyed by the derailment early Wednesday of a Walbridge-bound freight train.

The cause of the accident involving two locomotives and eight freight cars remains officially undetermined, CSX spokesman David Hall said yesterday. But early reports from the scene indicated that a burst beaver dam caused a flash flood that undermined the track at a culvert.

Neither crewman aboard the train was hurt seriously when it derailed at about 35 mph, and a small diesel fuel spill was contained. Freight cars loaded with auto parts and finished vehicles derailed behind the two engines.
