(The AFL-CIO’s Transportation Trades Department issued the following statement on April 1.)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The following statement was issued today by Sonny Hall, President of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO in reaction to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee vote in support of an amendment by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) providing assistance to the airline industry and its workers.

“On behalf of transportation labor, I want to thank the Senate Appropriations Committee for recognizing the dire crisis facing the airline industry and its workers.

“The men and women who work in this industry are hurting like never before, and Senator Murray s measure will help stabilize the airlines and provide additional jobless benefits to help alleviate the pain and suffering these workers and their families have endured for too long.

“I thank Senator Murray for her strong leadership and her commitment to transportation workers, and urge the full Senate and House to act quickly and finish the job.
