CHICAGO — The federal government’s proposal to slash subsidies for long-distance Amtrak routes will overwhelmingly hurt travelers and commuters in cities across the nation, Amtrak CEO Richard Anderson told hundreds of railroad industry stakeholders Thursday in Chicago. The administration’s proposal would slash transportation spending, including money for long-distance or “national network” Amtrak routes.
