JACKSON, Miss. — A bulletin released late today by the state’s Department of Transportation advises road closures linked to the crash involving two freight trains may persist into Friday.

An eastbound Kansas City Southern freighter rear-ended a stationary KCS train, causing a derailment on Bullard Street in Jackson. MDPT said five cars derailed.

There were two injuries.

Bullard Street was closed off between Industrial Drive and Boling Street.

The intersection of Capitol and Boling and Capitol and Parkside Street also were closed.

No time frame was given for reopening the streets.

Jackson police said Thursday it could take some time to remove the derailment debris. Heavy equipment would have to be brought in to right the cars and repair the tracks.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes until the work is done.
