CLEVELAND, July 30 — Two remote control operators were injured on July 28 when the remote control equipment they were operating for the Alton and Southern Railroad collided in Gateway Yard at East St. Louis, Ill.

One of the injured employees was riding on the end of a cut of 70 cars while the employee actually operating the RCL was at the other end of cut. The other injured employee, assigned to a different remote control locomotive, was sitting in the cab of the RCL when struck. In addition to the injuries, there was approximately $75,000 damage to track and equipment.

On July 27, 2004, in a separate event, a remote control accident in Alton, Ill., on Norfolk Southern resulted in a diesel fuel spill.
