CARBONDALE, Ill. — Investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused a southern Illinois train derailment that injured two members of the train’s crew.

Both the train’s engineer and conductor are hospitalized.

Union Pacific says five coal cars went down an embankment early Wednesday and into a creek during the accident about 35 miles southeast of Carbondale.

A spokesman for the railroad says no residents are in danger and traffic isn’t impeded.
