BOONE, Iowa — Two men were arrested near Boone, Iowa, on Thursday after authorities said they were caught trying to derail a train.
Authorities said the two men had steel plates and bolts with them when they were found. Union Pacific closed down the track as workers inspected other train tracks in the area for signs of tampering.
The incident happened at the Kate Shelley bridge over the Des Moines River just west of Boone.
The men are expected to be charged with criminal trespassing.
