SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — The Union Pacific Railroad is ready to begin efforts to disinfect its South Morrill maintenance facility for hantavirus, reports the Omaha World-Herald.

The rodent-borne disease was determined to have caused the death of 30-year-old Steve Harberts of Lyman. Harberts, who worked at the maintenance yard, died June 13. It has not been determined where he contracted hantavirus.

EMR Corp. of Denver is expected to finish by Aug. 29, U.P. spokesman John Bromley said.

The bleaching and a long-term rodent extermination including trap monitoring will be done as a precaution, Bromley said.
