OMAHA — A Union Pacific train carrying several executives and guests, including company President Jim Young, was involved in a noninjury accident Wednesday near Scottsbluff.

Union Pacific spokesman James Barnes said the accident occurred about 7:15 p.m. Young was riding in a special train used for inspection tours. The slow-moving westbound train struck a northbound vehicle crossing the railroad tracks.

A spokeswoman for the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office said the vehicle was driven by Ruth Roth, 50, of Mitchell.

“Basically, we’re very fortunate that everyone came out fine,” Barnes said. “The only damage was to the snowplow on the front of the train and the vehicle.”

Roth’s car was destroyed, the spokeswoman said.
