HOUSTON — Part of U.S. Highway 90 remains closed in a rural area east of Houston Wednesday, one day after the derailment of about one dozen cars from a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.
Nobody was injured.
Fort Worth-based BNSF says the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Houston Assistant Fire Chief Omero Longoria says one tanker car leaked about 50 gallons of methanol — which is flammable — over two hours.
Longoria says the leak was contained and no evacuations were necessary.
The rest of the derailed cars contained non-hazardous plastic pellets.
One rail car ended up in a nearby creek.
