The U.S. Class I workforce expanded slightly in April, growing for the second straight month. As of mid-April, the large roads employed 161,876 people, a 0.8 percent increase compared with March’s level and 3.3 percent gain versus April 2011, according to Surface Transportation Board (STB) data. The number of transportation employees (T&E) increased 0.8 percent to 65,124 on a month-over-month basis. Transportation employees also showed a gain of 3.6 percent over 2011.
