LONDON — According to a wire service, train workers said Monday they will stage three 48-hour strikes against a northern rail network next month in a dispute over pay.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union at First North Western will walk out Aug. 5-6, 12-13 and 23-24 in the latest of a series of rail strikes around Britain that have disrupted train travel sporadically for months.

The union, which represents some train staff, said the workers are seeking a “substantial” pay rise.

The train drivers’ union Aslef called off a threatened weekend strike against First North Western, which runs local trains across northwest England, after agreeing on a new pay deal.
