NOTTINGHAM, England — Trains in and out of Nottingham were delayed today after a suspected Second World War bomb was discovered in Derby, the Nottingham Evening Post reported.

Commuters were evacuated from Derby Midland Station shortly after 8am when workmen found the unexploded device at a construction site only 100 yards from platforms.

Bomb disposal experts from the army’s Chilwell barracks were at the scene, though the station reopened at 9am.

Two Central Trains services between Nottingham and Birmingham suffered “serious delays”, said company spokesman Ged Burgess.

But he added: “Things are getting back to normal now.

“After the weather at the weekend we were advising people not to travel unless it was absolutely necessary, but now we are saying do travel.”

A spokeswoman for Midland Mainline, which is still running a reduced service between Nottingham and London because of the bad weather, said services through the city had not been hit further by the closure.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “The suspected bomb is around three or four inches in diameter and has fins on the back.”
