OMAHA, Neb. — Railroad operator Union Pacific Corp. on Thursday said it elected Thomas “Mack” McLarty to its board of directors.

McLarty, 60, serves as president of the consulting group Kissinger McLarty Associates. McLarty, a one-time chief of staff in the Clinton White House, also serves as chairman of McLarty Cos., a privately held transportation business in Little Rock, Ark.

McLarty’s election increases the size of the railroad’s board to 11 members.

Shares of Union Pacific rose 97 cents to 92.21 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
