WALLACE, La. — The Union Pacific Railroad line that was closed after a 47-car derailment last week was open again on Sunday, the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office said.
About 16 trains use the line daily and were being detoured during the cleanup.
About 20,000 gallons of crude oil spilled but there were no injuries or other leaks when 47 of 131 cars derailed Thursday evening along the line between St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes.
The cause of the derailment was under investigation.
