OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific Railroad is improving its rail line that runs from Tama, Iowa to Ames, Iowa. Various projects on nearly 50 miles of this line include removing and installing 45,500 ties, as well as renewing the surfaces at 40 road crossings. Crews will also spread about 21,800 tons of rock ballast to help provide a more stable roadbed and replace more than a half mile of rail in various curves. The project began October 16 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-December.
