CLINTON, Iowa — Union Pacific is attempting to purchase area businesses so it can expand its railway bridge.
“We’ve had several businesses approach us directly that have been approached directly by UP for a buyout,” Steve Ames, president and CEO of the Clinton Regional Development Corp., said. “That bridge is going to be raised higher, so the approach is going to go out. … We’re working with businesses that are affected with it to try to find alternate locations.”
Ames said trying to relocate affected businesses within the area was posing a challenge, because there aren’t enough good industrial spaces currently. But that is changing with the Lincolnway Industrial Rail and Air Park. Also, Union Pacific tries to make it easy on the businesses, Ames said.
