SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Interwoven, Inc., the leader in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), today announced that Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE: UNP – News), which owns North America’s largest railroad, has selected Interwoven ECM as its online content management solution. Interwoven’s unique collaborative model for contributing content will allow Union Pacific to more efficiently manage the growth of its content while ultimately improving employee, supplier, and customer communications enterprise-wide.
“Our employees, suppliers, and customers need access to the most current information,” said Mike Jaixen, UP’s manager of information architecture. “By implementing Interwoven ECM as part of an enterprise-wide content collaboration strategy, we will simplify the content creation and management process, significantly reducing the time and effort necessary to create and deliver that information to our online audience. Interwoven’s unique features allow for non-technical employees to collaborate on and contribute thousands of documents to UP’s site, while ensuring that all content is approved and compliant with company standards.”
At Union Pacific, an internal team currently manages content, including HTML, graphics, and office documents. When content needs to be added, the content owner coordinates with the team to manually reformat the content into HTML and post it online. Interwoven ECM will allow UP employees across the country to collaborate without extensive technical knowledge.
Union Pacific selected Interwoven because its XML-based templating allows content owners to easily contribute without having to understand HTML. UP has chosen Interwoven TeamSite 5.5 software for content management and OpenDeploy software for content distribution, and the majority of the content on the site will be contributed via TeamSite Templating software.
“Union Pacific is on the leading edge of the transportation industry,” said Jack Jia, CTO of Interwoven. “Interwoven ECM allows all employees — regardless of location — to work in a collaborative environment. As a result, those who know the content best will be mobilized to post as needed — ultimately providing time and cost efficiencies company-wide.”
