OKLAHOMA CITY — State and federal agencies are suing Union Pacific Railroad for nearly 32 (m) million dollars for cleanup of a polluted area in Oklahoma City.

The lawsuit by the state Department of Environmental Quality and the federal Environmental Protection Agency asks for repayment of money spent to clean up Union Pacific’s land near the intersection of Interstates 35 and 40.

The land is where the Double Eagle Refinery Company refined oil and later stored used oil on the land. Officials say waste oil polluted the soil and groundwater with lead and other toxic metals.

A Union Pacific spokesman declined comment except to say railroad officials are reviewing the lawsuit.
