CHICAGO — Union Pacific Railroad Co. has withdrawn its objection to Canadian National Railway Co.’s plan to acquire the EJ&E Railroad.
The move is one of a series of steps by former opponents to allow for the acquisition. The withdrawal was submitted Dec. 19 to the federal Surface Transportation Board, which is considering whether to approve the acquisition.
Union Pacific spokeswoman Donna Kush said her company plans to run the same number of trains in the future that they currently run on the EJ&E – no more than three a day at any given point.
Canadian National also announced a deal Tuesday with Mokena to provide noise mitigation and other benefits along the EJ&E, one of seven such agreements with municipalities in Illinois, including Hoffman Estates.
