Norfolk Southern has hired an outside consultant to advise on its safety culture. Some rail unions bristle — like BLET in particular — because the outside consultant is unfamiliar with railroads. “Hiring outside consultants may sound good to investors, but the experts are working every day in the cab of the engine,” said Eddie Hall, National President of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
