(Union Pacific and Logile, Inc., issued the following on October 30.)
OMAHA, Neb. — Logile, Inc., a pioneer of Real-Time Operational Planning and Execution Management Systems, announced that Union Pacific Railroad, the largest railroad in North America, has completed the deployment of an exception plan optimization and execution management solution developed by Logile, Inc. The solution assists the Railroad in pro-actively managing compliance with planned train operations.
The solution uses Execution Compliance Management and Real-Time Performance Analytics modules to aid the Railroad’s dispatch compliance team in managing and evaluating the effectiveness of the Railroad’s train plan management decision process. The solution permits train management decision and analysis to be communicated, and the effectiveness of the decision and escalation process to be evaluated, in near to real time.
The solution provides the capability to model, plan and analyze exceptions to planned train operations using pre-determined best practices. Mike M. Connolly, the Sr. AVP, Network Integration and Scheduling for the Railroad, explained that “Logile’s solution offers us the opportunity to ask ‘What if?’ for various possible scenarios, in response to points of congestion, or unplanned events. We are able to evaluate the alternative solutions ranked by cost or effectiveness.” The solution also tracks and records post-evaluation feedback regarding what was planned vs. what really happened and is used for reference, trend analysis, and reports, permitting managers to determine the quality of execution, adherence to the primary plan and quantification of plan exceptions. The causes behind variances can also be examined, with results used as input to further refine alternative plan best practices. Analytical reports provide access to the quality of train management decision making and provide extensive ad-hoc reporting.
Martin Malley, AVP, Information Systems added, “Logile’s product complies with our technology and architecture standards for real-time applications. This allows easy integration and will enable us to maintain the application internally.”
Purna Mishra, President and founder of Logile, stated, “We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with the Union Pacific Railroad in developing and implementing this critical application which is a significant sub component of our solutions for Dynamic Execution Management.”
