NORTHFIELD, Minn. — A derailment of 26 cars on a Union Pacific freight train near Northfield has caused a leak of sulfuric acid, authorities said.
The derailment occurred near a residential area at about 2 a.m. today, said Mark Davis, Union Pacific spokesman. Television reports said the derailment was near Highways 3 and 19.
As of 6 a.m., no injuries were reported and no evacuations had been ordered, Davis said.
The acid was leaking slowly from one tanker car, he said.
