OMAHA — Seven cars of a Union Pacific train derailed near Interstate 80 in Omaha Wednesday afternoon, spilling coal onto a hillside and causing minor traffic delays.
The cars were part of 135-car train traveling from Wyoming to Iowa. The derailment took place about 4:15 p.m., just west of the railroad bridge crossing 84th Street. A brief street closing stalled traffic in the area.
Union Pacific spokesman James Barnes said no one was injured and no hazardous materials were released. Crews were investigating the cause of the derailment, he said, and cleanup was under way.
