FOREST HILL, La. — The site of a six-car train derailment in Longleaf was being cleaned on Saturday by Union Pacific crews.
Six cars, which carried wood chips and scrap iron, derailed on Friday around 10:30 p.m. The site was next to the Southern Forest Heritage Museum, just after crossing the Spring Creek Bridge.
There were no injuries reported in the incident, said Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Tracy Bellino.
Bellino said no hazardous materials were being carried by the train.
Also, no roadway blockages were reported and no drainage affected, Bellino said.
The cars had been removed by late morning on Saturday, the only sign of the derailment being broken trees and foliage along the track. Union Pacific employees remained at the site, repairing the track.
Union Pacific spokesperson Raquel Espinoza said information about the incident was still being gathered. The company will release a statement later.
