FORT WORTH, Texas — A Union Pacific freight train derailed in Fort Worth on Monday afternoon, scattering boxcars and container carriers across a large rail yard in the southwest part of the city.
The incident happened at about 1 p.m. at Vickery Boulevard, near Hulen Street when, according to officials, one of the cars came unhooked during a switching operation and derailed the train.
There were no injuries and no hazardous material was spilled, officials said.
However, debris was scattered for several hundred feet and the track was damaged. In fact, a portion of the track was moved about 10 feet, coming to rest above some AT&T fiber optic lines.
According to AT&T, the lines were not damaged and no customers were affected.
The estimated cost of the damage was not immediately known.
