OAKWOOD, Texas — Clean-up work and investigation continue at the scene of the derailment of four locomotives of a 50-car Union Pacific freight train into an East Texas creek.
The train derailed about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at the testle over Keechi Creek, about 20 miles southwest of Palestine. Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza-Williams while carrying a cargo that included auto parts, bricks and soap from Laredo to Illinois.
The Palestine Herald-Press reported in Thursday’s editions that witnesses say the testle was burning when it collapsed under the weight of the locomotives.
The crew of two was not injured. The Union Pacific spokeswoman said it took several hours to extinguish the blaze.
