(Nebraska television station KETV posted the following Association Press article on its website on March 20.)
OMAHA — Omaha’s Union Pacific, the nation’s largest railroad, increased monitoring and surveillance of certain trains as the United States opened its war against Iraq.
Union Pacific said it also increased its security Wednesday night at key rail yards and priority tracks, tunnels and bridges.
Spokesman John Bromley said for security reasons he would not disclose which trains, tunnels, rail yards and bridges were receiving extra attention.
Bromley said the Association of American Railroads has a security center operating 24 hours a day with people scanning intelligence reports for anything that might affect railroads.
He said Union Pacific and other railroads have their own people doing the same thing.
