OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific Railroad achieved the safest first half of the year in its 154-year history with a record-low employee reportable injury rate of 0.70 from January through June. Reportable employee injury rates are measured by employee injuries reported to the Federal Railroad Administration for every 200,000 employee-hours worked.

Union Pacific became the safest Class I railroad in the United States based on its 2015 employee reportable injury rate of 0.87.

“Union Pacific’s steady improvement in employee safety is a tribute to our employees who care about each other’s safety and making sure everyone goes home safely,” said Chief Safety Officer Rod Doerr, Union Pacific vice president – Safety. “We will continue focusing on safety until we reach our ultimate goal of zero injuries.”
