(The Associated Press circulated the following on August 2.)
OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific has announced that it plans to reorganize its community relations staff.
Officials at the nation’s largest railroad said today they want to be better able to respond to state and local concerns in regions where it operates.
Three Union Pacific employees have been named vice presidents of public affairs, and they will be based in California, Nebraska and Texas. Each vice president will have a small staff that will help keep tabs on several states.
The changes are intended to help the railroad avoid problems like the 56 thousand dollar fine Arizona officials imposed on Union Pacific in June. The railroad had started work on a track expansion project there without first getting state approval.
