FREMONT, Neb. — As the Union Pacific locomotive rolled across the Downing Street crossing Wednesday afternoon southeast of town, a pickup truck stopped at the crossing arms.
That doesn’t always happen.
“This is a really bad crossing in the morning,” said Ed Abboud, 51, of Omaha, the train’s engineer. Motorists often try to drive around the crossing arms when a train is approaching, especially when drivers are headed to work.
