Union Pacific Railroad plans to spend $19 million to improve lines in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
On July 1, the Class I launched a $10 million project on a 22-mile line between Washington and Pacific, Mo. To be completed by month’s end, the project calls for removing and installing rail on one of two tracks in the area.
UP also launched a $9 million project July 1 on a 50-mile line between Hiawatha, Kan., and Auburn, Neb. To be completed by mid-August, work includes removing and installing more than 57,000 ties, spreading 32,700 tons of ballast and replacing 80 grade crossing surfaces. By mid-July, crews also will replace more than three miles of rail in various curves between Kansas City, Kan., and Union, Neb.
