(Railpower Technologies Corp. issued the following on Sept. 22.)
BROSSARD, Quebec — Railpower Technologies Corp. announced today the sale of two high performance clean energy RP20CD Eco-Motive locomotives to Union Pacific (“UP”). These EPA Tier II certified, six-axle, 2000hp Ultra Low Emission locomotives are being ordered immediately after the delivery of four Railpower six-axle locomotives in service at UP’s Roseville, California yard.
Known for their industry leading adhesion levels, Railpower’s RP20CD locomotives are the ideal choice for hump service applications which require high tractive effort levels at low speeds for the classification of rail cars. With one-for-two or two-for-three replacement ratios in certain operating conditions, these units out-pull all other conventional, genset, and repower options in the market today maximizing asset utilization and improving customers’ bottom lines. Demonstrating up to 60% reduction in fuel consumption and 80% reduction in emissions, these locomotives have proven their ability to reduce fleet size, associated maintenance and shop congestion.
“This new order from Union Pacific clearly recognizes our industry-leading high performance advantage. As our product lines evolve, we commit to providing customers with the best options in the industry for reducing costs and emissions and for replacing aging fleets with the highest performance units available in the market,” said Mr. Jose Mathieu, President and CEO of Railpower.
