SHELDON, Iowa — Clean up is under way after a train derailment near Sheldon in northwest Iowa.
Officials say 25 cars of a Union Pacific freight train went off the tracks early yesterday morning along Iowa Highway 60.
No one was injured.
UP spokesman Mark Davis says 20 cars were loaded with sand and five were hauling soybean oil. The derailment happened about 4:30 am. The train, with 117 cars and two locomotives, was going from St. Paul, Minnesota, to North Platte, Nebraska.
Davis says about 450 feet of track was damaged, and the line has been closed until it can be fixed. Officials hope to have it reopened by tonight.
In the meantime, trains are being diverted to another line.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Sheldon is about 55 miles northeast of Sioux City.
