SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — A Union Pacific Railroad freight train derailed today near the Western Nebraska community of Dix — about ten miles east of Kimball.
Union Pacific Railroad spokesman John Bromley says no one was hurt early today when 23 cars of the train — carrying mostly lumber and steel — came off the tracks.
Bromley says both main line tracks in the area were blocked. Several contractors worked to clear the derailment out of the way so they can open up a main line this evening.
Bromley says they estimate the track to be open by nine tonight. Union Pacific is investigating the cause of the train derailment.
